Amy's blog

This is a blog about me, Amy,my husband, Eric, and my son's Brendon and Gabriel. I really just want a space to write down all of the little things that you forget in everyday life. I have started this blog to have a place to remember all of Brendon's (and now Gabriel's) little antics and the funny things that he says and does.

I Love This School

I am sooooo glad that I put Brendon in private school! Today we had they set up a Mother's Day Celebration for all of the mom's in Brendon's class. The kids all drew a picture of their mom's and we had to pick out which one was us. They served us breakfast and made us a present and a card. These are some of the most loving people that I have ever met. Last year Brendon was in public school and the difference is amazing. When Brendon was in public school he used to cry every night when it was time to read! It was really hard on both of us. These are some of the changes that I have seen since the switch:
  • Brendon is happy!
  • Mommy is happy!
  • Brendon has had excellent acedemic progress, and the teachers actually teach!
  • They have reading buddies from the upper school come and help them with their reading every day.
  • The teachers actually love my son, as if he were their own.
  • Brendon has alot of friends and a small class size, so more attention for him and less cliques at the school.
  • They teach my son to love, be kind, and care for others.
  • He is learning good morals.
  • They do creative projects that help the children learn about many different things to make them well rounded.
  • The teachers not only encourage, but require proper speech. No ebonics here!
  • Uniforms alleviate the need for the kids to feel pressure from wearing expensive name brand clothing.
  • Every month they focus on a specific area of science (the planets, animals, etc.), which is very important to me. Brendon can tell you every planet in order from the sun. Pretty impressive for a 7 year old.
  • They have special activities to include the parents in their children's school. Plays, breakfasts, parties, etc. They encourage the parents to be very active in their childs school.

As you can see the difference is well worth the extra money. I don't think that you can put a pricetag on a good education. His school doesn't even cost any more than when I had him in daycare. I know that I made the right decision, and right now I am so glad thankful for his teachers and his school.

I don't even know my planets in order, so he's got one up on me!

We will be looking into parochial school with Lily too (mainly to keep her away from bombers, drugs, and guns) <-- geesh! Sounds like we're in Afghanistan or something!.

They served you breakfast? I'm so jealous :)

I'm right there with you on private education. Teaching in CMS left me very bitter. Too much standardization! Not every kid is the same and has the same learning style, but CMS is way too large to accomodate those differences. So, enter standardization. Sorry - that was my little rant! Anyhow, I am thrilled Brendan likes school so much better. I know that must be a relief for you.

Amen to that, Amy, I'm so glad that you put him in Carmel, too. They are great, loving teachers there and you're right he's really happy, which is almost as important as the academics. Financially, it's tough, but well worth it. My inheritance paid for this year and I wish my Dad could just see how good Brendon is doing now. Thanks, Daddy, we miss you so much!!!

Brendon, I'm so very proud of you!! You are such a good boy and smart, too. Mommy, I'm proud of you too!! You've done a great job raising Brendon alone and that's tough.

I love you both very much!!!
