Amy's blog

This is a blog about me, Amy,my husband, Eric, and my son's Brendon and Gabriel. I really just want a space to write down all of the little things that you forget in everyday life. I have started this blog to have a place to remember all of Brendon's (and now Gabriel's) little antics and the funny things that he says and does.

Update

I went to the doctor the other day for my monthly checkup. I also went to see my gastric bypass surgeon last week to checkup with him. I really wish my doctors would work together and communicate regarding my care, but they both are apparantly too busy to do that, so I have to work between the two of them.
With the gastric bypass MD, I learned that my vitamin B-12 is still low after taking injections for over a year. Everything else looked very good. I am only 9 lbs. heavier than I was at my last visit a year ago. He felt that was a good weight gain considering I am 5 month pregnant. He also gave me some other good news; he said that he doesn't think it will be hard for me to lose the weight from this baby if I continue to gain weight at the rate that I have been. That is something that I have been terrified of since I got pregnant. I appreciated the reassurance. He also told me it may be very difficult to take the glucose tolerance test.
Next, I went to my Ob/Gyn. He told me that I really need to have the glucose tolerance test b/c I have been having blood sugar issues since I was at the end of my first trimester. Every day my blood sugar drops rapidly at some point and I start to sweat and feel very faint. My doctor really thinks I need to take the diabetes test, and hopefully I won't throw up from all of the sugar. Overall my appointment went well. Little Lucas is still measuring big, and he is really a wiggle worm. Every time the nurse found his heartbeat, he would move. I can definately feel all of that movement at this point in my pregnancy.
In other news, I have finished all of my training to counsel at the Crisis Pregnancy Center, and I will begin shadowing in the next couple of weeks. As far as service is concerned, the holidays are coming so there will be many opportunities to serve the community. I filled out and application for Operation Christmas Child, which sends out Christmas shoe boxes for children all over the world. I love what they do for all of the children every year and want to be a part of it. My chuch also builds a toy store every year and sells toys for a fraction of the cost that they would be in the regular stores. That way local people that have little money and want to buy toys for their children can come to our store and purchase them for about 1/4 of the price. Our ministry did research, and found that people would still prefer to buy the toys (it gives them a sense of pride) than to have a handout. The toys are bought by my church and donated. The remainder of the money go's back to another local church that helps these people that are impoverished. I am looking forward to getting Brendon involved in all of this. We finally told him that Santa is just mom and dad giving him gifts, so that myth has be dispelled for him. He can try this year to focus on helping other children to enjoy Christmas.
