Brendon got in trouble at school the other day, and it was the worst it has ever been. I got a call from the vice principal yesterday letting me know that Brendon would be in In School Suspension for 3 days. I was in complete shock.
On Tuesday, Brendon was supposed to have ecology club after school, but he forgot to bring home the note to me so I could give him permission. When he went to school on Tuesday, he asked his teacher repeatedly if he could call me and get permission to stay for ecology club. His teacher repeatedly said "No". It is policy not to let the children call their parents during school unless it is absolutely necessary. At the end of the day Brendon lined up to go get on the bus, but he instead went to the front office. He then proceeded to ask the secretary if he could call his mom. She told him, "No, go get on the bus, Brendon". When she turned around Brendon had picked up the phone to dial the number to call me. He then proceeded to go to talk to the lady in charge of ecology club to ask her if he could stay. She said "No, Brendon, go get on the bus. You will have to make better arrangements next time"
Brendon's teacher wrote a note for me to read, and he was lucky he didn't miss the bus. Unfortunately, he didn't bother to mention any of this, and didn't give me the letter explaining that he was in trouble. I didn't find out until the next day from the vice principal!
I have never seen Brendon so blatantly ignore the people in charge of him. I had a long discussion with Eric and we had to decide on the best way to punish him. We had to come up with some solutions so that he will never do anything like this again.
We made Brendon write down what he did wrong, why it was unsafe, and what he thought his punishment should be. He definitely knew he was in trouble, and the only thing out of his mouth was yes ma'am and yes sir. We decided that for 2 weeks he will not be allowed to watch TV or play the Wii. He is going to stay after school for an hour to help the janitors clean the school. He is then going to come home and do his homework. Any spare time that is left over will be spent helping me do housework. Yesterday he cleaned the kitchen, swept the floors, vacuumed and dusted. I will definitely be keeping him busy to ensure that he doesn't have any big issues in the future.
The one thing that I did learn from this story is that when Brendon is determined to do something, he will stop at nothing to do it. That could be really good or really bad...
