Lilypie Baby Ticker Lilypie 1st Birthday Ticker

Amy's blog

This is a blog about me, Amy,my husband, Eric, and my son's Brendon and Gabriel. I really just want a space to write down all of the little things that you forget in everyday life. I have started this blog to have a place to remember all of Brendon's (and now Gabriel's) little antics and the funny things that he says and does.

Labor and Delivery of Gabriel

It has taken me a while to post this because we have had a rough time the past few days. On Saturday we came home, and I have a terrible cold that I cannot seem to kick. As most of you know, Sunday it began to snow. By Sunday night, our power had gone off, and we had no power for 8 hours. We took turns just holding the baby to keep him warm. So now for the birth story.

I went in on Thursday morning to be induced at 7:30am. The nurses prepped the room and then they prepped me. I told them that I wanted to be as mobile as possible throughout my labor so that I would not be on my back. This was going to be difficult b/c I had to be hooked up to moniters and the pitocin drip. I was still able to go to the bathroom and walk around the room. They started my pitocin at 9am, and Dr. Lucas came in to check me and break my water at 10am. After he broke my water, I went into strong labor pretty quickly. I held off on the epidural as long as possible. I made it for 2 hours, and then asked for drugs. I got epidural #1, and it didn't help my pain at all (It only numbed my legs). The doctors weren't sure what had happened. They came in and tried to adjust it, and it just didn't help at all. The anesthesiologist decided it would be best to try and redo the epidural. She came in and redid the epidural, and it took the edge off of the contractions, but I still had alot of pain. The nurse checked me at 2pm, just before my second epidural, and I was still only 3cm. The epidural eased my pain enough for me to be able to dilate. By 2:45pm, I was in terrible pain, again. They paged the doctor, and they were going to work on the epidural again, but it turned out I was already 10cm and ready to push! I had to wait for about 15 minutes for them to find my doctor. The doctor arrived in the delivery room at 3pm, and I pushed until 3:07 and that is when Gabriel was born. I was immediately in love with him. Eric did great throughout my labor and delivery, and I was glad that he stayed so calm. I pretty much had an involuntary "natural labor", but it was much shorter this time, and I barely had to push. All in all, I would say that this labor experience was a great deal better than my labor with Brendon. Now I have two wonderful kids, and I am so happy. Gabriel is gorgeous, and a very sweet little boy.
